Odd Owl is the creative project of Carmen Caruso and Phil Jacobsen. Based in San Francisco, Caruso and Jacobsen first began playing together in 2008 after finding each other on Craigslist. After a successful Northwest tour in April 2010, they added a third member, bassist John Brown, to the mix. They combine their fondness for storytelling into an avant-garde indie sound that fuses organic instrumentation, electronic beats, and a wide array of influences, from chamber pop and lo-fi, to folk-rock, worldbeat and 60s surf music. Their music has received a warm reception in their hometown of San Francisco. Some of the venues they have played at together include: San Francisco, CA (Rockit Room, Kimo’s, Hemlock Tavern, Maggie McGarry’s, the Brainwash Cafe, Cafe Royale, ReTox Lounge, and the Milk Bar); Los Angeles, CA (Hotel Cafe, Gypsy Den in Santa Ana); Tacoma, WA (Bob’s Java Jive); Seattle, WA (Seamonster Lounge); Eugene, OR (Black Forest, Luckey’s Club). Their music has also been featured on San Francisco’s local radio station, Pirate Cat Radio, and Tacoma’s award-winning college radio station, KUPS The Sound. Odd Owl continues to redefine their sound through delicate, clear vocals, eerie guitars, and earthy beats to create something warm, mellow, and truly of the West Coast.
